In her Heels with Erin Sloan

“SLOW DOWN! Soak in ALL of the moments big and small. Also, your mom is always right”

Erin Sloan is the Senior Account Executive for EventWorks in Birmingham AND our newest Alabama Ambassador for Heels & Handshakes. We wanted to interview her for our #FeatureFriday to share with you a little more about her story and her passions.

How did you enter into your industry?
After completing an incredible opportunity of being the special events intern for the city of Starkville, MS while I was at Mississippi State, I was hooked on events and the event industry and knew that was the career path I wanted to take! I dove head first into different realms of the industry and now I’m 11 years in and wouldn’t change a thing!

Did you always know you wanted to have this career?
Honestly no! I went through so many different “what if” scenarios and tried several different majors in college before landing on Communications/Public Relations and focusing on event planning. When I was younger I was OBSESSED with fashion and dreamed of one day becoming a buyer for a designer. So crazy to look back now and see where life and the many crazy turns has lead me!

If you could tell yourself one thing when you first started your career, what would it be?
With the event industry it’s very easy to get into the mindset that everything has to be perfect and all the i’s need to be dotted and t’s need to be crossed. Know that you are going to make mistakes and those mistakes are only going to help you learn and grow in your career and deliver fantastic results to your clients!

How do you manage imposter syndrome?
I always share my feelings and celebrate my successes, big or small!

If you could go back and tell your teenage self advice what would it be?
SLOW DOWN! Soak in ALL of the moments big and small. Also, your mom is always right lol

Where are we likely to find you on the weekends or when you aren't working?
With my three kiddos and husband either at the ball field or finding treasures at a thrift store/estate sale!

Name 3 things you cannot live without.
Diet Mountain Dew, coffee, my family!

What are you currently listening to? Podcast? Favorite song that motivates you?
I’m a yacht rock girly and my current obsession is “What a Fool Believes” by the Doobie Brothers.

How do you get yourself out of a funk when you are having an off day?
Talk to my mom and spend time with my little family! Take time to breathe and relax and know tomorrow is a new day.

What would surprise us about yourself?
I’m an old soul, so I love vintage/thrifted finds, and I have a plate wall at home that displays all of the plates I’ve collected from vacations and or thrift stores! Literally one of my favorite pastimes is decorating my home.

What is the best advice you have received?
Watch out for those that can’t with you but can with others. Know your worth.”

What are some career highlights and biggest career accomplishments?
I have had many career highlights and have the pleasure of planning and executing successful events and working with incredible people! One of my biggest career accomplishments is starting from a special events intern and truly working hard to get where I am today. I have learned so much and have gained some dear friendships along the way!
