Heels Hero, Megan Seeley

Not all Heroes wear capes!

It’s a new month and we have a new series, called Heels Hero.
What is Heels Hero, you ask? Heels Hero is a new series where we reach out to people we admire that are disrupting their industry or partners that we couldn’t live without or BOTH!

Today we are featuring one of our favorite tools and a disrupter in the space, Flodesk. If you have signed up for our newsletter, chances are you have seen our beautiful templates and GIFS that make our emails stand out from others. We had the honor of getting to know more about Megan Seeley the head of customer experience of Flodesk in our feature below.

How did you enter into your industry?
I'm an entrepreneur with a professional background in Human Resources and Customer Experience. I started using Flodesk a couple of weeks after they launched and noticed how quickly they were growing. Martha and I have a mutual colleague that connected us, but we say it was always meant to be because I actually had an email scheduled to send the next day seeing if Flodesk wanted some help with customer experience and support during those crucial early days while she already had me in mind. Martha beat me to the punch and the rest is history!

Did you always know you wanted to have this career?
I didn't! My career has been a winding path from health care, to human resources, to web development, to entrepreneurship, and now to Flodesk. I like to think that each step along the way has given me exactly what I need to succeed today.

If you could tell yourself one thing when you first started your career, what would it be?
I'd tell myself to worry less about climbing the ladder and more about following where my energy is taking me.

If you could go back and tell your teenage self advice what would it be?
You are WAY more powerful than you think. Lean into your strengths and trust yourself.

How do you manage imposter syndrome?
I vent to my personal board of directors (aka my best friends in life and business) because they know how it feels and are always there to remind me why I'm where I'm at today and encourage me to trust my expertise.

Where are we likely to find you on the weekends or when you aren't working?
I'm usually hanging out with my daughter and my dog, catching a flight for a girl's trip, watching Hallmark movies, or listening to true crime podcasts.

Name 3 things you cannot live without.

Coffee, my favorite people, and a creative outlet

How do you get yourself out of a funk when you are having an off day?
I don't! I let myself be in the funk and give myself a "yes" day. I've found that if I'm in a funk, there's usually a reason for it, even if I'm not aware of why. So I let myself say yes to whatever feels good on those days and that usually does the trick.

What are you currently listening to? Podcast? Favorite song that motivates you?
Podcast - National Park after Dark for pleasure and The Chief Customer Office Human Duct Tape Show for business with Jeanne Bliss. Favorite song that motivates me lately is Industry Baby by Lil Nas X ft. Jack Harlow.

What would surprise us about yourself?
Despite working in tech, business, and marketing, my degree is actually in Biomedical Science!

What is the best advice you have received?
Trust your gut, but use data to back it up.

What are some career highlights and biggest career accomplishments?
I was the first customer-facing employee at Flodesk shortly after we launched in 2019. In that time I've been able to build a world-class team, conceptualize Flodesk University, our member-created education platform for all things email marketing strategy, connect with over 60,000 truly amazing business owners to help them utilize email marketing, and most recently speaking about how we run our member experience department differently than our competitors and other SaaS companies.
