IN her Heels with Shweta Shyamani

From Pain to Power

From Pain to Power

For decades Shewta’s mom lived with severe, chronic pain and a myriad other health issues. When a neurosurgeon from an esteemed medical center in Chicago told her matter-of-factly that she would have to live with the extreme pain she had and that, “there was nothing more he could do for her,” she was crushed. She felt powerless.

“I was enraged by his utter lack of sensitivity and determined to find her some relief. It was unbearable seeing someone that I love suffer. The neurosurgeon didn't have the tools in his toolbox to provide my mom the healing she desperately sought, but somewhere, someone did. I never wanted her to feel like that again, nor do I wish anyone to feel such hopelessness and despair.”

Bioenergetic healing (aka energy medicine) is a technology that has its roots in spiritual traditions from around the globe. Over the past century and a half, science has begun to develop a framework of understanding through quantum physics, neuroscience and epigenetics as to how and why it works. It is at once ancient wisdom and leading-edge science.

“It is my personal mission to support my clients’ transformation by helping them to discover the capacity for healing that is available inside each and every one of us.”- Shweta Shyamani.

How did you enter into this industry?
My mom was suffering and conventional medicine had run out of options for her. I turned to complementary and alternative therapies to find a solution for her pain.

Did you always know you wanted to have this career?
No, I had planned to be a C-level exec for a large corporation and was on my way, but I found it soul-sucking. My mom's difficult journey led me to this unexpected path, which truly feeds my soul.

If you could tell yourself one thing when you first started your career, what would it be?
Believe in yourself, unwaveringly. You may not know how, but you are fully capable.

How do you manage imposter syndrome?
I'd like to say I don't have that anymore, ha! If it shows up, I acknowledge it's there and just keep going. I no longer let it stop me. When I saw an interview with Meryl Streep, arguably the gold standard in her field, say that she felt unworthy whenever someone sent her a script, I figured imposter syndrome is just a part of the human condition.

If you could go back and tell your teenage self advice what would it be?
You, my dearest one, are MORE than enough.

Where are we likely to find you on the weekends or when you aren't working?
The pickleball court, taking urban hikes with my dog, seeing live music or in my kitchen trying new recipes to share with loved ones.

Name 3 things you cannot live without.
1) A solid sisterhood of friends. 2) Learning and personal growth | I'm an insatiable learner, whether it's something new about the mind/body connection, energy healing, new styles of cooking, or pickleball skills. 3) Supporting women to be seen, heard and own their power, so we can restore balance to our overly masculine energy world.

What are you currently listening to? Podcast? Favorite song that motivates you?
"I Am Light" by India Arie always moves me and reminds me of who I am (and we all are), Lewis Howes' School of Greatness podcast, audiobook of Cassandra Speaks, by Elisabeth Lesser. Throwback 80s and 90s hairbands -- so fun! I also love Abraham Hicks, Joe Dispenza, Bruce Lipton, and Allison Armstrong on YouTube.

How do you get yourself out of a funk when you are having an off day?
I allow myself to be with the discomfort. In my work, I have seen time and again how repressed emotions can eventually manifest as physical disease or dysfunction, so I give myself permission to be with my feelings. When we do that, it flows through us faster than trying to avoid or numb the unpleasant feelings. Sometimes I may feel moved to call a friend for support, go for a walk or workout, journal or do a healing practice on myself.

What would surprise us about yourself?
I studied improv at Second City.

What is the best advice you have received?
Celebrate everything!

What are some career highlights and biggest career accomplishments?
My/our work was featured on the Today Show and Good Morning America, when I had a boutique invitation design company, I was President of my MBA class at Northwestern, I successfully launched a large-scale corporate website after several before me couldn't. Truthfully, none of the achievements prior to my healing/coaching work are very meaningful to me. To help someone overcome a neurological disorder that doctors said she would always have, or help someone cultivate self-confidence after suffering from major social anxiety for years, or help someone believe in herself and find happiness after being in an abusive relationship, are what I see as my "real" accomplishments. I am so grateful and humbled to support others in the way that I get to.

What is something you are excited to be working on?
Creating some new group offerings in my business. I have primarily done 1:1 work with clients, and am excited to leverage the power of collective experiences and wisdom in masterminds and courses this year. Additionally, I am always excited (and a bit obsessed) about exploring and discovering new ways to work with the energy body and the mind/body connection to help myself and clients get better and faster results.
