H&H,How I built this: Female entrepreneurship edition
Love Your Minute
Entrepreneurship is hard. It can be an emotional rollercoaster. Good days and bad days. One of my pet peeves, is when I hear the saying, “build it and they will come.” What about all the thousand things you need to do before, in the middle and after. We do not gatekeep at Heels and we want to get into the hard conversations that no one wants to talk about.
We brought in four powerhouses that are killing it in their space to speak to us for our November Program at the National Museum of African American Music. Our speakers did not hold back. They discussed staffing, tools to set them up for success, mentorship, failures, VC’s, competition and setting boundaries.
Panelists included:
Alexis Jones Co-Founder of Noted Returns
Erica Rains CEO of The Chef & I
Kellie Bryson Co-Owner of Legacy Farms
Monchiere Holmes Jones the Chief Brand Curator of Mojo Marketing + PR
Moderated by Ashleigh McDuffie, Account Manager for Renaissance Marketing Group
Here are the main takeaways from our panelist:
Pay attention to your team and their needs.
Find your unique selling proposition.
Don’t become the hater, know your truth.
Not every opportunity is going to the right opportunity for you.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
You don’t have to reply to the email right away. Don’t react in emotion.
Hire right away and outsource your weaknesses.
