Celebrating Women: 2025 IWD Luncheon Recap
This year, we embrace the theme "Accelerate Action" for International Women's Day, calling on women everywhere to drive change, break barriers, and create meaningful impact. It’s a powerful reminder that progress happens when bold steps are taken, and this year’s panel of inspiring women shared how they’ve done just that in their careers and personal journeys.
Defining Moments in Career Journeys
The panel opened with a discussion on pivotal moments in their careers. One speaker shared how, after being passed over for a promotion in 2012, she boldly pursued a high-profile role with Team Bo while pregnant with twins. Despite the challenges of traveling and negotiating flexible work arrangements, her resilience carried her through a 14-month tenure, proving her strength and unstoppable nature.
Another speaker highlighted her time at HGTV, where she negotiated a four-day workweek to balance her career and family life. Her story served as a powerful example of how setting boundaries and redefining success can create a fulfilling work-life balance.
Navigating Career Challenges and Work-Life Balance
The panelists dove into the reality of overcoming career hurdles. One shared her journey of being laid off during the pandemic, which became an opportunity to earn a master's degree and land a new role at Nissan. Their stories reinforced that obstacles can be stepping stones when paired with determination and adaptability.
Confronting Fear and Perfectionism
Fear and perfectionism often stand in the way of progress. One speaker emphasized the importance of setting boundaries and owning your talents, while another encouraged embracing confidence by acknowledging your unique experiences. The key takeaway: perfection isn't the goal — progress is.
Building a Support System and Community
Another core theme was the value of community and mentorship. Panelists stressed the importance of finding a supportive network, especially in male-dominated industries. Whether through organic mentorship relationships or building connections outside of work, having a circle of trusted people is crucial for growth and success.
Action Items for Accelerating Action
Inspired by these powerful stories, here are three action items to help you embrace the "Accelerate Action" mindset:
Explore your curiosities: Give yourself permission to try new things and step outside your comfort zone.
Identify your long-term vision: Reflect on who you want to become and break that vision into smaller, achievable goals.
Reframe failures as learning opportunities: View setbacks as part of the journey, and use them to grow stronger and more resilient.
This International Women's Day, let’s commit to taking bold actions, lifting each other up, and pushing boundaries. By embracing change, challenging norms, and supporting one another, we can create a ripple effect of meaningful impact.
Together, let’s accelerate action.
A big thank you to our amazing partner for their support and generosity.
