In Her Heels- Hannah Christine

Create a legacy of generosity.

Founder, Hannah Christine, created the brand Hide & Hunter in 2013 when she married two of her most beloved passions - Outreach and Design - into one life-giving brand. With every bag purchased a portion of the sale is donated to help support outreach trips domestically and internationally - So not only do their Deer Dolls look great wearing our beautiful accessories, they're doing great things in the process!

Join us for a #FeatureFriday where we will learn more about the Founder herself and go “In Her Heels.”

How did you enter into your industry?
I initially entered apparel design school to one day go into bridal design, however, for my senior runway show, I incorporated a myriad of different hides in my designs. After graduation, I decided I wanted to learn old Native American leatherworking techniques to create custom, leather bags - thus began my handcrafted leather goods journey. I have Creek Indian heritage in my family line, so I thought it would be a neat way to pay homage to my ancestry.

Did you always know you wanted to have this career?
I did not, I started learning handcrafted leather techniques and once I started making bags, people were wanting to buy them. So I sort of happened upon this genre of design.

If you could tell yourself one thing when you first started your career, what would it be?
This field of work, although sometimes grueling and tough on your body, will bring you into connection with some of the most incredible people and businesses. It's worth the late nights, endless prayers, literal blood sweat, tears, frustration, and the never-ending need and desire to come up with new ideas!

How do you manage imposter syndrome?
Whew, this is a great question. I just have to remind myself that I am not only creating a product that is authentic, durable, and high-quality, but that I am also using that product to bridge great conversations, friendships, and contributions to my community. Hide & Hunter was designed on purpose for a purpose, even in those moments of fear, stress, and insecurity.

If you could go back and tell your teenage self advice what would it be?
Look at the things that interest you and pick a field of study that helps you spend more time in that area. Always partner your interest with outreach. Find a way to give back to your community and those in need. Giving is better than hoarding. Strategically utilizing your finances and time on those you love and those in need does far more for you than saving and spending on yourself. Create a legacy of generosity.

Where are we likely to find you on the weekends or when you aren't working?
You'll most likely find me walking my two King Charles through Mountain Brook, Alabama or grabbing a glass of wine with my hunny at Ocean Restaurant.

Name 3 things you cannot live without.
Jesus, Nature, and Family/Friends

What are you currently listening to? Podcast? Favorite song that motivates you?
Any type of video, podcast, or documentary on Archaeology and Prophecy.

How do you get yourself out of a funk when you are having an off day?
Spend time in nature and prayer.

What would surprise us about yourself?
I'm really frugal so I enjoy finding ways to assemble cute outfits for little $ and ways to create new designs through upcycling and recycling!

What is the best advice you have received?
Don't wait for everything to be perfect to get started. Start with what you have and build your brand/space/shop/designs as you go.

What are some career highlights and biggest career accomplishments?
My biggest highlight and accomplishment would probably be opening up my brick-and-mortar location in the heart of downtown Birmingham in 2021.
