ANNUAL Galentine’s Luncheon recap
Have you ever imagined having a conversation with your younger self? If you could sit down for coffee together, what would you say? Would you offer reassurance, encouragement, or a reminder of their strength? This powerful exercise in self-reflection is a gateway to self-love—a lesson Jasmine Sweet beautifully shared in her inspiring keynote speech at our annual Galentine’s luncheon at Legacy Farms.
Speaking Kindly to Yourself
Self-love starts with how we talk to ourselves. Do we offer ourselves the same kindness we give others? Jasmine shared that she speaks to herself to reflect, process, and uplift her spirit—but many of us struggle with this. Our words shape our confidence, mindset, and actions.
When was the last time you spoke kindly to yourself? Instead of focusing on what went wrong, try speaking to yourself like a dear friend—with encouragement and compassion.
Learning from the Past, Embracing the Present
Jasmine reflected on meeting her younger self, reassuring her through love, loss, and growth. Each hardship and triumph shapes who we are today. What would you tell your younger self? More importantly, can you embrace the person you’ve become?
Self-Acceptance and Self-Compassion
Jasmine highlighted two key pillars of self-love: self-acceptance and self-compassion. Perfectionism can hold us back, but true self-love means embracing ourselves—flaws and all.
Self-compassion is giving yourself grace on tough days, recognizing that mistakes don’t define you. Instead of self-criticism, reframe your thoughts: I am learning. I am growing. I am doing my best.
The Role of Healthy Relationships
Our relationships play a huge role in how we practice self-love. Setting healthy boundaries is a form of self-respect, but so is fostering meaningful connections. Jasmine reminded us that in today’s culture, we often talk about cutting people off. However, while boundaries are important, we should also be open to inviting the right people in—those who uplift, encourage, and inspire us.
Surround yourself with people who remind you of your worth, who celebrate your wins, and who support you in your journey. Let go of relationships that drain you, and cherish those that bring joy and growth.
Finding Joy in the Present
Jasmine's father had a beautiful way of greeting people. Instead of asking, "How are you?" he would say, "What do you know good?" This simple shift in language invites positivity, joy, and meaningful conversation. It’s a reminder to focus on the good in life, to celebrate small wins, and to embrace each day with gratitude.
So, I ask you: What do you know good today? What small moment of joy can you celebrate? Self-love is not just about grand gestures—it’s about the daily choices we make to appreciate ourselves, to embrace our journey, and to recognize the light within us.
A final thoughts
Self-love is transformative. It shapes our relationships, our confidence, and our ability to radiate joy. It starts with speaking kindly to ourselves, embracing our past, practicing self-compassion, nurturing healthy relationships, and finding joy in everyday moments. So today, take a deep breath and remind yourself: I am enough. I am worthy. I am loved. Because self-love isn’t just a concept—it’s a way of living.
